The first shipment of Mazda’s new seven-seat CX-9 range has already docked in Australia, and the preliminary info is already known, but weeks out from the Kluger-rival’s official launch a clearer look at the new CX-9’s features has spring up.
The information, leaked from a dealer circular, reveals that the four-model Mazda CX-9 range is set to start from $49,000 for the front wheel drive Sport, topping out at just over $71,000 for the all wheel drive Azami.
Those prices aren’t final, instead referred to as a “rough estimate” however expect final pricing to sit close to the provisional figures.
The four-model CX-9 range sees the Sport prices from $49,000, the Touring from $56,500, the GT from $64,500 and the GT Azami from $67,500 all with front wheel drive. Adding all wheel drive bumps pricing up by an indicated $4000 across the range.
The information received by TMR indicates driveaway pricing, so while the pricing estimates sit above those of key rival, the Toyota Kluger (which starts from 42,190 and tops out at $61,990) it’s worth keeping in mind that Toyota’s list prices do not include on road costs.
There is still a small step up in price however, the new CX-9 is more expensive than the outgoing model, which ran between $43,770 and $61,680 before on road costs.
At a glance it seems as though Mazda has stepped up the value, adding in new safety and technology across the range.
Standard features in the CX-9 Sport include LED headlights, three-zone climate control, black cloth trim, satellite navigation, 18-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth connectivity and Mazda’s 7.0-inch MZD Connect infotainment systems with a touchscreen and supplementary rotary controller.
The CX-9 Touring adds black leather seat trim with heated, power-adjustable front seats, rain sensing wipers, auto headlights, LED fog lights, rear seat USB ports, and a larger 8.0-inch MZD Connect screen.
The CX-9 GT is set to arrive with a choice of black or natural leather, an electric glass sunroof, active driving display, 12-speaker Bose audio, DAB+ digital radio, powered tailgate, proximity key, and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Those three models also include a reversing camera, rear park sensors, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, and forward and reverse smart city brake support as part of the standard safety suite.
The GT Azami also adds lane keep assist, lane departure warning, driver attention alert, adaptive LED headlights, radar cruise control with stop and go function, and smart brake support.
All models will be powered by Mazda’s newly developed 2.5 litre four-cylinder SkyActiv turbo petrol, producing 170kW of power and a diesel-like 420Nm of torque from as low as 2000rpm. Official fuel consuption is rated at 8.4 l/100km for front wheel drive models and 8.8 l/100km for all wheel drive variants.
While Mazda is yet to announce official pricing (which won’t stray too far from the estimates above), those specifications will be exactly what you’ll find in Australian Mazda showrooms starting from the new CX-9’s early July debut.
