Though broader equipment details remain under wraps, Mazda today confirmed that all CX-9 model grades will be offered with blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and front and rear autonomous emergency braking as standard.
That last piece of technology (dubbed Smart City Brake Support or SCBS in Mazda parlance) is all-new for the CX-9, and is capable of preventing the car from driving (or reversing) into other objects at low speeds.
Rear cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring are currently only available on the range-topping Grand Touring variant of the outgoing CX-9.
Rear parking sensors and a reversing camera will be standard on all 2017 Mazda CX-9s as well, plus the usual slew of electronic safety aids like ABS, EBD, brake assist, stability control and traction control. Trailer stability control, hill-hold assist and roll stability control will also be standard across the range.
The top-grade CX-9 Azani will also boads adaptive LED headlamps with auto high beam, a fatigue monitoring system, lane-keep assist and lane departure warning, plus a collision detection system and an extended autonomous braking system that is capable of intervening at higher speeds than SCBS.
Full range specifications for the 2017 CX-9 – which will be sold in four variants as both a FWD and AWD with a single 170kW/420Nm turbo petrol engine available – will be revealed closer to its local launch in July, along with pricing.
