2016 Mazda MX-5 gets Autoexe styling and tuning package

The all-new 2016 Mazda MX-5 has been on the global stage for less than a year, but already the tuning scene has turned its attention to the new roadster’s potential.

Latest cab off the rank is Japan’s Autoexe, one of the better-known tuning houses from the MX-5’s homeland, and no stranger to tweaking Mazda products.

For the new 2016 MX-5, Autoexe has delivered a package that focuses on handling and styling rather than outright power – a familiar recipe for Mazda’s iconic roadster.

On the cosmetics front, the Autoexe-enhanced MX-5 picks up a lightly modified front bumper with new LED daytime lights, along with a boot-lip spoiler and a small rear diffuser. Volk forged alloy wheels round out the styling changes.

Headlining the driving enhancements is a ‘Kajima-spec’ suspension package, named for Takao Kajima, who was responsible for the suspension of the first-generation MX-5 before eventually ascending to the position of program manager.

There’s also a new strut bar, floor cross bar and a member brace frame, all contributing to an even stiffer chassis design.

A reduced flow air filter can also be ordered, along with a sports oil filter and a new centre dual muffler with a low exhaust-pressure design.

There will likely be some small power gains with those latter tweaks, although Autoexe has yet to reveal any specific numbers.

In its regular form, the new MX-5 can be had with either a 96kW/150Nm 1.5 litre petrol engine, or a larger and more powerful 116kW/200Nm 2.0 litre unit.
