Rumors have been
circulating that the 124 Spider will get a 1.4-liter turbo I4 making 160 hp from the Fiat 500 Abarth. However, with the newest test mule’s enlarged exhaust system,
the 124 Spider may pack the Alfa Romeo 4C’s 1.7-liter turbo. The 4C’s engine produces
237 hp and would aid the roadster in getting to 60 mph in under five seconds. With Mazda refusing
to give the new MX-5 any more power, the 124 Spider would cater to drivers
looking for Italian good looks and Porsche Boxster performance.
