Go drive the new MX-5 Miata, no questions asked (well, a few)

Mazda MX-5 Club

Mazda lures new customers with The MX-5 Experience

Mazda will let prospective customers drive its new MX-5 Miata roadster at racetracks around the country. As first blush we’re thinking, “Boy, that’s awfully nice!” But on second thought, it’s more like a drug dealer’s behavior: “Give ‘em the first one for free and customers will be banging your door down for more track time.”

The ride and drive event is open to drivers 18 years and older with a valid U.S. license who sign a waiver and take a breathalyzer test.

The featherweight MX-5 delivers 158 hp at 6,000 rpm and 148 lb-ft of torque. Add to that a short-throw six-speed manual, about 35 mpg on the highway and a 50:50 weight balance and you have one of the most fun-to-drive cars on the planet waiting at a starting line for random people like you to drive. Don’t miss the chance, especially if you’re in the market for a second car, which the Miata almost has to be.
