Sporting Soul Red highlights on the door mirrors, front bumper and boot-mounted lip spoiler, the Icon will be available to customers in the UK market – based on MX-5s wearing Meteor Grey Mica or Crystal White Pearlescent paint finishes.
Inside, the Icon brings automatic headlights and wipers, rear parking sensors and black leather-trimmed seats. The package is finished with 16-inch alloy wheels.
The 2016 Icon will be powered by Mazda’s 1.5 litre four-cylinder engine, rather than the larger 2.0 litre unit, with power and torque likely unchanged from the regular MX-5 at 96kW and 150Nm respectively.
Previously, the MX-5 wore the Icon badge as a limited edition model in 2000, 2005 and 2007, but the 2016 model will be the most exclusive of all. Just 600 units will be made available for UK customers.
Prices start from £20,995 (AU$41,160), and the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Icon goes on sale from August 1.
