The refreshed Mazda CX-5 crossover is coming in just a few weeks in front of the worldwide audience attending the Los Angeles Auto Show, where detailed specifications will be released.

For now we catch a first glimpse of the model through a shadowy figure, teased by the company – and most likely aiming to entice us to the company’s usual slender design. The main stylistic changes seem to be happening at the front, where the rounded nose of the current model has been ditched in favor of a sharper edge, angled at the front end. This is most likely something borrowed from the evolution presented with the new CX-9 and is apparently making the CX-5 seem a little more sporty. Additionally, at the back the last cutline for the second-row door is now vertical and flows upward to a slightly different side window.

Some changes are also noticeable at the back, where there’s a more rounded tail and what appears to be thinner taillights. Inside the cabin the rumor mill says Mazda will update the materials and the available driver assistance features. Meanwhile, the powertrain options are the big unknown – but we might be looking at the introduction of the Mazda G-Vectoring Control engine-management software.
