Mazda says that the fuel filler pipe on every single 2014-2016 CX-5 crossover may be prone to rupture in a rear-end collision, increasing the risk of a fire. Mazda says that it knows of no accidents or injuries as result of the issue.
Mazda filed official paperwork with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on February 1, though it didn’t propose a timeline for when the vehicle fixes will begin.
Mazda is offering owners who are concerned about operating their CX-5s a free loaner vehicle from their local dealer until the fix can be performed.
Affected customers can call the Mazda customer service hotline at 800-222-5500.
