Mazda MX-5 turbo still planned image
Ever since it has hit most markets across the globe earlier this year, the new generation of the Mazda MX-5 has been rumored to give birth to an even hotter version, which will be aimed towards petrol heads who think that its current power is simply not enough. According to the guys from Motoring, quoting Kudo Hidetoshi, the Mazda global PR boss, a turbocharged version of the latest MX-5, or even a true MPS, is currently in the books. However, don’t expect it to be unveiled sometimes this year or even next year because this will come long into the vehicle’s expected 10-year lifespan.
We are not sure at this point what engine the turbocharged Mazda MX-5 will be using under its hood but chances are this will also be found on the upcoming Fiat 124 Spider, which will be unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. As you probably already know by now, the new Mazda MX-5 generation has a starting of 18,495 GBP in the United Kingdom, for the SE version, which is coming with features such as the four-speaker audio system, air conditioning, leather wrapped steering wheel, 16-inch alloy wheels and LED headlights. This is followed by the SE-L, coming from 19,245 GBP, while the range-topping MX-5 Sport costs 21,845 GBP. The engine lineup includes a 131 HP (96 kW) 1.5 liter unit, along with a 160 HP (117 kW) 2.0 liter one.
