Mazda prototypes turn up with spectacular Le Mans livery for Watkins Glen image
During the upcoming Watkins Glen race the Mazda prototypes will be adorned with a special vintage livery honoring the company’s ties with the Le Mans endurance race.
Not only the automaker’s vehicles will be wearing the retro-fashionable Le Mans livery, but event the drivers will get bespoke suits, which afterwards will be auctioned off for charity. Mazda is doing the call because it has something special – the quarter century anniversary of the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans overall victory. The celebrations will include the paint job for the #55 Mazda Prototype – wearing the winning car’s classic livery for the Sahlen Six Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen. The #70 car will also be adorned with the special livery but it will sport a arker combination of Soul Red, Silver, and Machine Grey.
The legendary Mazda 787B racer had a 2.6-liter, four-rotor engine that delivered a banshee’s wail at high revs. In case you were tone deaf and didn’t hear the thing coming, your eyes wolnd’t have missed is due to the catchy combination of bright orange, green, and white stitches. That was because they had to reference the products of primary sponsor Renown, a company that made argyle socks. The drivers will also war those classic-inspired racing suits referencing the ones from 1991 and the clothing will be later auctioned during the Drive for Good charitable program.
