The carmaker has identified a weakness with the fuel pump’s plastic retaining rings, which may become frail due to exposure to engine heat.
Should this occur, the retaining rings may eventually break, causing fuel to leak. Leaking fuel may present a fire hazard.
Around 5400 Mazda RX-8s are on the recall list for Australia, sold between July 2003 and March 2009.
The recall process will see the offending retainer rings replaced with additional heat shielding at no cost to owners.
Mazda will attempt to contact affected customers when the necessary parts are available, but any customer wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer or phone Mazda Australia on 1800 034 411.
