New 2016 Mazda CX-9 SUV: This Is It!

What appear to be screenshots of Mazda’s all-new 2016 CX-9 just surfaced on the web giving us our first look at the mid-size crossover prior to its world premiere at this week’s LA Auto Show.

It’s less impressive / dynamic that what Mazda’s official teaser sketch suggested, but that’s something we’re accustomed to… That’s not to say it isn’t an improvement over the outgoing CX-9, because it is, with the styling borrowing heavily from Mazda’s Koeru concept featuring an aggressive snout with an almost upright grille and a deeply sculpted front bumper.

While the profile isn’t all too different from the car it replaces, the shorter rear overhang and more sloped rear window together with the slim taillights give the new CX-9 a much-welcome sportier feel.

The interior is an evolution of the designs seen on Mazda’s latest cars like the 6 sedan and smaller CX-5 crossover with added premium touches and seating for seven passengers in three rows.

We don’t have any official information on the powertrains yet, but it’s believed that the new CX-9 will get a turbocharged version of the firm’s 2.5-liter inline-four Skyactive unit found in other models in the range.

Thanks to Ken for the tip!
