Scion to debut new concept car in LA

Toyota’s youth-oriented Scion division has announced that it will unveil an all-new concept vehicle at this year’s Los Angeles auto show.

Scion didn’t dish out any more details, but the automaker says the all-new model will arrive in showrooms by 2017. The mystery model will be the third all-new vehicle to join the Scion lineup, following the recent introductions of the iA sedan and iM hatchback.

Although Scion is keeping the details of the new car a secret until the start of the LA show, its widely believed that the company is working on a new crossover model. Set to be smaller than the Toyota RAV4, the Scion CUV would take on pint-sized utility vehicle like the Nissan Juke, Mazda CX-3 and Honda HR-V.

Toyota previewed such a vehicle with its C-HR concept at last year’s Paris Motor Show. That project has already moved to the prototype stage, meaning a 2017 launch date is very plausible. The yet-to-be-named vehicle would ship standard with a four-cylinder gas engine, with a hybrid drivetrain likely to join the mix at some point.

Scion will pull the sheet on its new concept vehicle on November 18.
