The 2016 Mazda MX-5 is here
The Fourth of July is still a couple days out, but Mazda marked its own petrol-head holiday on Thursday by announcing that the all-new 2016 Miata MX-5 has officially landed on North American soil.
After making their way over from Japan on the transport vessel Phoenix Leader, hundreds of MX-5s are now sitting in port awaiting transport to dealerships across the country. Most of the first units to make their way across the ocean were the limited edition Launch Edition model, which feature a unique Soul Red exterior paint color. Mazda build just 1,000 Launch Edition cars.
“The MX-5 Launch Edition will give enthusiasts the opportunity to take ownership of one of the very first, very exclusive, 2016 MX-5s to arrive in the U.S.,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO, MNAO. “Along with the privilege of exclusivity and being among the first 1,000 to take delivery, owners will be able to enjoy one of the purest expressions of open-top driving exhilaration available today as well as our latest entertainment, safety and luxury technologies – many of which are unique among sports cars.”
A few normal spec Miatas did, however, complete the trek with the Launch Edition cars and can be seen wear other paint hues. Those cars will be available to purchase soon for $25,735, which includes an $820 destination charge.
