Mazda has arrived at the 2015 SEMA Show with a pair of Miatas showing what happens when the concept of lightweight performance is taken to the extreme. The result is the MX-5 Spyder and MX-5 Speedster. Both cars draw inspiration from vintage roadsters, with the Speedster in particular reeking of 1950s sports car simplicity. The bear-bones vintage design sees the windscreen and roof removed in favor of a wind deflector, a newly styled rear deck, carbon-fiber doors, and custom 16-inch RAYS Extreme Gram Lights wheels.

Combined with other weight-saving measures such as an Alcantara-trimmed interior and carbon-fiber Mu-Len Delta seats, the Speedster weighs 250 pounds less than the US-spec MX-5. Other unique touches include a Blue Ether paint job and a Racing Beat center-mount exhaust, while an adjustable coilover suspension slams the Speedster 30 mm closer to the road. The more sophisticated MX-5 Spyder, finished in Mercury Silver, gets a carbon-fiber aero kit and distinctive bikini top, a set of 17-inch lightweight Yokohoma wheels, body tonneau cover and an interior adorned in Spinneybeck natural leather.
